LAW SOCIETY OF NORTHERN IRELAND (BELFAST)

Le Jury a constat que la LAW SOCIETY OF NORTHERN IRELAND a fortement réagi contre la mise en cause devant la Chambre des Communes des fonctions mêmes d"un avocat , Mr Gavin Booth, qui défend la famille d"un militant de l'IRA abattu par la police, en avril 1991, en publiant une protestation officielle appelant à l'arrêt immédiat des "attaques contre les avocats" et en rappelant solennellement l intention de l'opinion que:

"Les avocats fournissent un soutien vital aux victimes et aux survivants des troubles pour accéder à la vérité et la justice et ne devraient pas être attaqués pour avoir fait leur travail".

BAR OF THE YEAR 2024

The Special Mention of the Jury BAR OF THE YEAR awarded each year to a bar which has distinguished itself for its commitment to the service of the independence of lawyers, its exemplary fight for the rule of law and for the suffering endured in the service of human rights, is awarded for 2024 to the Law Society of Northern Ireland (Belfast).

The Law Society of Northern Ireland defended Gavin Booth a solicitor representing the family of an IRA man shot dead by the police in 1991, calling publicly in a statement to cease attacks on lawyers using British parliamentary privilege by solemnly recalling solemnely:

"Solicitors provide vital support to victims and survivors of the Troubles to access truth and justice and should not come under attack for doing their jobs.
